It’s Sunday. You’re alone in the city of Boston, starving, but tired of the regular city food. You don’t want eggs or burgers. No. You want a home-cooked meal. Your answers lie in Mattapan at a black and family owned Caribbean restaurant called “Golden Krust”.
With most of their locations in New York, this restaurant chain finally blessed the Boston residents with the Mattapan location in April of 2017. Though the company did suffer the death of their CEO in December of 2017, they stayed strong and pushed ahead, looking to expand to Canada now!
While their food is based on Jamaican recipes, they do serve a West Indian cuisine. Some of their special items include: Oxtail, Roti, Curry Goat, and those tasty Jamaican patties! But if you don’t want to venture too far from what you know, they also have Jerk Chicken, Jerk Fish, and a variety of delicious sides! The restaurant serves nice big portions for Breakfast, Lunch AND Dinner.
If you’re tired of the regular Boston food, check out Golden Krust. It’s your home away from home, as comforting as food can get.
Hold up, do you love wicked good burgers and that green, green, green–asparagus!? Looking to support a locally owned business? Right in the lower mills area of Dorchester, a new Black owned burger spot is exactly that!
Bred is delivering eclectic gourmet sandwiches with a Caribbean and healthy flair. The menu features the Bred Classic, Trill Cheese, and the Marley. Alongside your sandwich, Bred provides great side dishes that range from sweet plantain, fresh asparagus and crispy parmesan truffle fries.
If you’re on the run and need a quick boost, Bred offers a variety of freshly-made fruit smoothies. My top two favorite smoothies on their menu were the Tom Brady (strawberry, banana, raspberry, and coconut blend) and the Mean Green (kale, baby spinach, apple, banana, pineapple juice, and agave blend) . If you’re really on a health kick, you have the option to add whey protein or oatmeal to your smoothie.
If you’re looking for a serving of quality and quantity, Bred has you covered on all your turkey, salmon, grass fed beef and vegetarian options. Below are some pics of my personal favorites, but if you’re in Dorchester check out this new hotspot for yourself!
